NordVPNThe biggest consumer VPN and the most complete on the "businessey" features a small team asks for: Meshnet device-to-device networking (kept, after a 2025 reprieve), dedicated UK IPs as an add-on, post-quantum NordLynx and six annual Deloitte audits. It is undercut by the steepest renewal cliff in the field: £2.59 a month on the two-year deal, renewing at £104.28 a year.

MullvadThe honesty benchmark: €5 a month since 2009, no discounts, no renewal games, no email address needed, cash accepted, RAM-only servers, a police raid that found nothing, and public audits every year, but five devices, no fixed IP, no team plan, email-only support and WireGuard only.

TailscaleThe device-to-device network done properly: a WireGuard mesh between your own machines with SSO, SCIM, access policies and an API on flat per-user pricing, free for up to six users. It is not a privacy VPN unless you add a Mullvad exit node for $5 a month per five devices, and there is no fixed IP.

WindscribeThe independent's VPN: founder-owned, no two-year plan on principle, $69 a year that renews at $69, unlimited devices, a $2-a-month London static IP, a $5-a-seat team plan and a 10 GB free tier, with open-source apps, a founder acquitted in a Greek court for having no logs, and one honestly disclosed 2021 server-seizure lapse.

Private Internet AccessThe cheapest full-featured VPN here (£1.67 a month over 39 months, renewing at the same £65), with unlimited devices, open-source apps, port forwarding, a UK dedicated IP at £2.25 a month and three Deloitte no-logs audits; but a US company owned by Kape, no team features, and Trustpilot renewal complaints that do not match the pricing page.

SurfsharkNordVPN's cheaper sister: unlimited devices, RAM-only servers, four UK cities, Deloitte-audited, a London dedicated IP add-on, all sold on a £2.19-a-month headline that is ex VAT, A/B-tested, and renews at £6.10, a 179% step; no device-to-device network, a USD-only team plan with no fixed IP, and a US auto-renewal class action on the record.

NordLayerNord Security's business network: per-user pricing from $8 with a five-seat floor, SSO on every plan, UK dedicated servers in London and Manchester, but every feature a small business actually wants (fixed IP, site-to-site, device-to-device "Cloud LAN", cloud firewall) sits on top of a $40-a-month server and mostly the $14 Premium tier, it logs by design, and it has no Trustpilot profile and no API.

Cloudflare WARP / Zero TrustFree for a team of up to 50, $7 a user after that, with SSO, SCIM, device posture, a Linux client and, since April 2026, Cloudflare Mesh for device-to-device traffic; but it is not a privacy VPN: you cannot choose an exit country, Cloudflare keeps source and destination IPs for up to two years, no audit has ever covered WARP, the client is closed source, and a fixed IP is Enterprise-only.

ExpressVPNThe most heavily advertised VPN, technically excellent (KPMG-audited no-logs, RAM-only TrustedServer, the open-source Lightway protocol, seven UK locations, UK dedicated IPs from £2.99), and last in this comparison for what sits around it: an owner with an adware past that also owns the "review" sites that recommend it, a 2021 hacking-for-hire case involving its CIO, two Windows leaks in two years, and a £2.19 headline that renews at £5.83.
