1Password
The business benchmark: the best admin console in the category, a Secret Key on top of the account password, SSO included at the Business tier, guest accounts, a CLI, SDKs and an official MCP server that never hands a secret to the agent, SOC 2 and ISO 27001, and a Trustpilot 4.2 on 12,475 reviews. The costs: no free plan, no pound pricing (euros or dollars), €7.99 a user on annual billing only, or a fixed ten-seat starter pack at €21.95 a month.
How we test1Password (AgileBits Inc., Toronto, private) is the product the rest of the category is measured against for business use. Every account is protected by an account password and a 128-bit Secret Key generated on the first device, so a stolen password alone cannot open a vault; the vendor states it never holds either. The trust centre lists SOC 2 Type 2, ISO/IEC 27001:2022, 27017, 27018 and 27701, an annual penetration test (the reports sit behind a request form) and a HackerOne bug bounty. The one incident on record is instructive: in September 2023 an attacker used a session cookie stolen from Okta's support system to reach 1Password's own Okta admin tenant; 1Password says it stopped the activity, found no access to user data, and tightened MFA and admin sessions, and it published the account itself. The clients are closed source, there is no self-hosting, and the vault region (EU, US or Canada) is chosen at signup.
Prices as shown to a UK visitor on 8 September 2026: there is no pound option at all, only US dollars, Canadian dollars and euros, and our UK browser was shown euros, with no VAT statement anywhere. Individual is €3.65 a month on annual billing after a first-year promotion at €2.74; Families is €5.75 for five people. For a company the Teams Starter Pack is a fixed bundle: ten seats for €21.95 a month billed annually (€263.40 a year, about €2.20 a seat), with up to ten more seats at €4.49 each, and no single sign-on. Business is €7.99 a user a month on annual billing (the dollar figure is $8.99, $107.88 a year) and includes SSO with Okta, Entra ID, OneLogin and Duo, SCIM provisioning, guest accounts for outside collaborators, Watchtower reporting, audit-ready activity logs and item sharing with people who do not use 1Password. There is no free tier, every plan has a 14-day trial, we found no month-to-month option for Business, and the terms say fees are non-refundable with "reasonable prior notice" of price changes.
For developers and automation 1Password is the most complete here: the op CLI, SDKs in Go, JavaScript and Python, Secrets Automation with a self-hosted Connect server, a Terraform provider, and an official MCP server that runs inside the desktop app and, by design, exposes environment and variable names but never a secret value to the AI client. Passkeys are stored and filled, TOTP codes live in the vault, and a hardware key is a second factor for sign-in rather than a way to unlock the vault. Support is a 24/7 chatbot, email and a community forum; we found no phone line and no contractual uptime SLA, only a status page showing 99.67% to 100% per region over ninety days. Trustpilot is 4.2 on 12,475 reviews, 85% five-star, with sync errors and slow support the one-star themes.

*Business per user: the business or teams tier the score is set on, per user per month on annual billing and then month-to-month, in the currency the vendor shows a UK visitor on the research date; see each profile for the VAT basis, the seat minimum and what the tier above adds.
**Owned in: where the company that owns the provider answers to. A US-owned provider is subject to US law (including the CLOUD Act) wherever the vault is stored; with a zero-knowledge design the vendor cannot read the vault either way, so this column is about the company, not the encryption. "Data location" records where the encrypted vault is stored.
