Who owns it

Hetzner Online GmbH, Industriestr. 25, 91710 Gunzenhausen, founded in 1997 and privately held with no stock market listing. A UK or EU buyer contracts with Hetzner Online GmbH under German law; there is no UK entity. The Finnish site sits with Hetzner Finland Oy, which is named alongside the German company on the ISO 27001 certificate. The German federal information security office classifies Hetzner as an operator of critical services under KRITIS-V and NIS-2.

Hetzner owns and runs the buildings its servers sit in. There are three data centre parks: Falkenstein with 22 data centres, Nuremberg with 8 and Helsinki with 10, linked by redundant dark fibre at n x 100 Gbit/s, each with N+1 redundant UPS and a 2.5 MVA diesel generator. Hetzner describes itself as "one of the largest data center operators in Europe" with "hundreds of thousands of servers in operation". Nothing here is resold capacity or a marketplace of third-party hosts. The privacy policy states that "unless otherwise specified, your data will remain within the EU and will not be passed on to third parties", with named exceptions for domain registries, the payment processor Computop and social media embeds.

## What it costs

Prices are in euros and the dedicated pages show "excl. VAT." to a UK visitor. All figures read on 22 September 2026.

Hetzner does not sell an H100, an H200 or any AMD Instinct card, so there is no reference rate to quote. The largest GPU it sells is the RTX PRO 6000 Blackwell Max-Q with 96 GB of GDDR7, in the GEX131 server alongside a 24-core Xeon Gold 5412U and 256 GB of DDR5 ECC. That is EUR 1.9215 an hour, capped at EUR 1,199 a month, plus a one-off setup fee of EUR 599. The smaller GEX45 pairs an RTX PRO 4000 Blackwell SFF with 24 GB against a Core i5-13500 and 64 GB, at EUR 0.3429 an hour, capped at EUR 214 a month, with a EUR 209 setup fee. There is no committed or reserved tier on any line, no prepayment discount and no spot option. The monthly figure is a cap on hourly billing, not a commitment, and across every product checked the cap works out at the hourly rate times 624 hours, so a server left running all month is charged for 624 hours rather than 730.

The cheapest way in is a plain CPU server. AX41 gives you a six-core Ryzen 5 3600, 64 GB of DDR4 and two 512 GB NVMe drives for EUR 0.0945 an hour, capped at EUR 59 a month, with no setup fee. The Intel equivalent, EX44, is the same EUR 59. Traffic is the part that will surprise anyone coming from a US cloud: "traffic usage is unlimited and free of charge" on the standard 1 Gbit/s port, with no per-gigabyte egress charge anywhere on the dedicated line, the single exception being servers carrying the paid 10G uplink add-on. Storage is sold separately: a 1 TB Storage Box is EUR 3.20 a month, 20 TB is EUR 40.60, with no setup fee, and S3-compatible Object Storage starts at EUR 4.99 a month including 1 TB of storage and 1 TB of egress, with further egress at EUR 1.00 per TB. The Object Storage figures are Hetzner's launch prices and a 2026 adjustment has been reported but not confirmed on a Hetzner page.

For the persona, the realistic first bill on the GPU line is GEX45 at EUR 214 for the month plus the EUR 209 setup, so EUR 423 in month one and EUR 214 thereafter. Run it for a weekend instead and the compute is 48 hours at EUR 0.3429, about EUR 16, but the EUR 209 setup is still due. Billing is postpaid by monthly, quarterly or annual invoice, paid by bank transfer, credit card, PayPal or SEPA direct debit. A dedicated server cannot be paused, so cancelling is the only way to stop the meter.

## What you get and what to watch

Signup is self-serve with a card and there is no sales call for any catalogue product, including the GPU servers. There are no GPU quotas to clear. Hetzner runs risk assessments on new accounts and reserves the right to ask for identity verification in individual cases, handled by its own staff or the provider iDenfy, collecting the name, address and expiry date from a document to "prevent fraud and payment defaults". What stands in the way is not approval but lead time. Hetzner's own order-processing page quotes a few minutes for most catalogue servers, including most GEX variants, but 10 to 12 workdays for GEX131-1 and several weeks for GEX131-2 and the larger SX storage machines. The Server Auction, which resells Hetzner's own returned hardware through a Dutch auction with no setup fee, is usually deployed within one business day.

There is no UK location. Dedicated servers run in Falkenstein and Nuremberg in Germany and Helsinki in Finland, and the GPU stock is split: the 24 GB GEX45 is in Helsinki only, the 96 GB GEX131 in Nuremberg and Falkenstein only. Hetzner Cloud also sells in Ashburn, Hillsboro and Singapore, but no dedicated product was found in those sites. On the platform, expect one GPU per server and nothing above it: no multi-GPU nodes, no InfiniBand or equivalent cluster fabric, no managed Kubernetes and no Slurm. The Robot web service API at robot-ws.your-server.de covers ordering, rescue mode, resets, reinstalls, reverse DNS, failover and cancellation, with published per-endpoint rate limits, and Hetzner publishes an official Terraform provider and CLI for Hetzner Cloud but not for Robot or dedicated. No official MCP server exists for either; the only one found is a community project covering Hetzner Cloud.

Compliance is ISO/IEC 27001:2022 across all three parks, certified by SOCOTEC, with Hetzner stating there are "no exclusions in regard to measures mentions in Annex A", plus a BSI C5 Type 2 attestation and regular TUV Rheinland audits. There is no SOC 2 and no HIPAA. The CLOUD Act is not addressed anywhere on the site. Support is 24/7 by telephone and email at no extra charge, with no paid tiers, which is unusual at this price. The availability commitment is weaker than the support: the terms promise "economically reasonable efforts to achieve an annual average network availability of 99.9%", which is a best-efforts network figure rather than an instance SLA, and no service credit scheme was found. On Trustpilot, Hetzner scores 3.0 from 2,971 reviews, with 50 per cent five-star and 39 per cent one-star, and the company invites reviews. The one-star themes are consistent: 14 dedicated servers shut down in September 2026 without prior notice after card payments were returned, with two days' notice before a termination threat; a server pulled offline by automated abuse detection described as a false positive, down nearly 24 hours before a human looked at it; an ignored support ticket in August 2026; and repeated 503 errors from Object Storage. On the public record, a backbone fault between Frankfurt and Falkenstein was resolved on 1 June 2026, and a single leaf switch failure in Nuremberg on 24 July 2026 took load balancers, networks, cloud servers and object storage offline for every tenant wired through that rack.
