Saaskly

Framer

The fast-growing designer's builder from Amsterdam: a design-tool canvas, AI agents on every paid plan, GBP prices, a 300-location CDN on Pro, and public SOC 2 Type 2 and ISO 27001 reports on a Vanta trust centre. Pro is £23 a month on annual billing or £35 billed monthly. What to know: Basic caps at 30 pages so Pro is the first plan a fifty-page site fits, there is no code export or self-hosting path by design, no official MCP server, no SLA below Enterprise, refund wording that names the EU and Turkey but not the UK, and a 1.6 Trustpilot led by AI-credit billing shocks.

Saaskly score

Framer B.V. is a Dutch company registered in Amsterdam, founded by Koen Bok and Jorn van Dijk, who sold their previous company to Facebook in 2011. It is private, raised a $100 million Series D led by Meritech and Atomico in August 2025 at a $2 billion valuation, reports more than 500,000 monthly active users and says most new signups are now businesses. We found no Russian or Chinese link in ownership or engineering. There is no UK entity, but UK visitors see pounds.

Prices are in pounds with sales tax added at checkout, read on 16 September 2026. Pro is the plan we score, because Basic's 30-page cap fails a fifty-page site: £23 a month on annual billing, £35 billed monthly, a 52 percent premium, with 150 pages (expandable to 700 at £15 per 100), ten CMS collections and 2,500 items, 100 GB of bandwidth, 3,000 AI credits a month, a 300-location CDN, staging, branching and redirects. Basic is £8 or £10 with 30 pages, two collections and a 20-location CDN. Extra editors are £15 a month, content editors £8, locales £15 each, and the free plan has 1,000 pages but no custom domain. The domain is free on yearly plans. The refund line says EU or Turkey residents are legally eligible for one within 14 days; UK buyers have the same right under UK law, but the page does not say so.

The canvas behaves like a design tool, which is Framer's appeal and its limit for a non-designer. Forms are native, a CMS covers blogs, localisation is a paid add-on with AI translation, and the Agents feature, in preview, drafts and edits sites against a credit meter that dominates recent complaints. Sitemaps and canonicals are automatic and per-page meta fields exist; robots.txt editing is reported as Enterprise-only. Hosting is AWS with CloudFront and anycast routing; the CDN footprint itself is plan-gated. Compliance is the best documented here: SOC 2 Type 2 audited by Schellman for December 2024 to November 2025, ISO 27001:2022, a penetration test report and a named sub-processor list, all on a public trust centre. There is no MCP server from Framer; the one Marketplace plugin says it is not official. Commerce is third-party plugins only. Support is email and in-app with up to 72 hours for product questions, no phone, and no SLA below Enterprise.

Leaving is not offered. Framer's help centre says it does not provide HTML export for self-hosting because published sites depend on its backend for rendering, image optimisation and fonts; the rendered files can be downloaded but dynamic behaviour stops, and CMS content exports through a plugin as CSV or JSON. Trustpilot is 1.6 on 141 reviews, 76 percent one-star, with August and September 2026 themes about being charged for one-off AI credits instead of a plan, AI edits corrupting layouts, and seats billed automatically after sharing a link.

Not yet tested by Saaskly: assessed on published pricing, vendor documentation, the vendor's own help centre and status pages, and third-party reviews.

Cons

  • No code export or self-hosting path at all, by design; Basic stops at 30 pages so the real entry price is Pro
  • No official MCP server, no native commerce, no SLA below Enterprise, robots.txt reportedly Enterprise-only, and refund wording that omits the UK
  • Trustpilot 1.6 with 76 percent one-star, led by AI-credit billing surprises and support by email only with up to 72-hour responses

*Scored plan: the business plan the score is set on (the cheapest plan with a custom domain and no vendor branding, contact forms, basic SEO controls and room for a fifty-page site; for a managed WordPress host, one production site with staging and daily backups), per month on annual billing at the renewal price, then per month billed monthly where that is offered, in the currency the vendor shows a UK visitor on the research date. Developer CMSs show the licence plus a stated reference hosting cost. See each profile for the VAT basis, first-term promotions and what the plan above adds.

**Owned in: where the company that owns the vendor answers to. A US-owned vendor is subject to US law (including the CLOUD Act) wherever the site is hosted. "Russian or Chinese link" records ownership, management or engineering links found on the research date, with the evidence on the profile; Saaskly marks these down in the score by editorial rule and says so.
