Virtuozzo Infrastructure
Turnkey OpenStack-based hyperconverged IaaS with tenant portal, metering and software-defined storage — a complete spec sheet, ranked last on our production experience.
How we testVirtuozzo Infrastructure (renamed from Virtuozzo Hybrid Infrastructure in March 2026) packages KVM compute, software-defined block/S3/NFS storage and Kubernetes into a vendor-supported OpenStack distribution with an admin panel and a brandable tenant self-service portal. Virtuozzo bought OnApp in 2021 and the service-provider DNA shows: per-project metering (GPU-hour metering added in 7.3), S3 multi-tenancy, and off-the-shelf WHMCS/HostBill/CloudBlue billing integrations. Release 7.3 U1 (2026) introduced a built-in VMware migration tool with changed-block-tracking incremental sync. Because it exposes standard OpenStack APIs, the stock OpenStack Terraform provider and Ansible modules work unchanged.
The spec sheet reads well; the production experience is why it ranks last here. In our hands the platform felt unstable, and the company's acquisition trail — OnApp and Jelastic in 2021, among others — has, in our experience, left the acquired teams heavily restructured — in some cases with long-standing personnel appearing to be removed — and a product hierarchy and architecture that are confusing to navigate: it is not always clear which product, edition or console you are supposed to be using. Pricing is not public; there is no free tier.
Pros
- +Complete service-provider stack — tenancy, metering, billing hooks, S3 — without assembling OpenStack yourself
- +Native CBT-based VMware migration (vSphere 6.x–8.x)
- +Standard OpenStack APIs mean existing tooling and skills transfer
Cons
- −In our experience: felt unstable in production
- −Serial acquisitions (OnApp, Jelastic, etc.) with the acquired teams heavily restructured and in some cases long-standing personnel appearing to be removed; confusing product hierarchy and architecture
- −No public pricing, no free tier, partner-only distribution
