Crunch
An accountancy practice with its own software: Pro for a limited company is £94 a month and includes a dedicated accountant, VAT, director payroll, Corporation Tax and year-end accounts, which is a different product from everything else on this page. What to know: the software alone is £4 a month and thin, there is no Stripe, GoCardless or PayPal integration on Crunch's own integrations page, it is not on HMRC's Making Tax Digital for Income Tax list, and our own experience of the bank matching and the service was poor.
How we testE-Crunch Ltd is a UK private company, incorporated in 2006, operating from Brighton with a London registered office, and Companies House shows DNS Associates Ltd, itself an accountancy group, holding between a quarter and a half of the shares. Crunch is an accountancy practice first: the software exists to serve the fixed-fee packages, and that is how to read the prices.
Prices in pounds plus VAT, read on 8 September 2026. Lite is the software on its own at £4 a month for a sole trader or a limited company, with unlimited invoices, expense tracking and bank reconciliation but no VAT filing or accountant. Pro for a sole trader is £27 a month (£24.30 on annual billing) with a dedicated accountant and Self Assessment filing. Pro for a limited company, which is the package we score, is £94 a month (£84.60 annual) and bundles a client manager and accountant, unlimited support by phone, video, email and WhatsApp, VAT returns, director payroll for up to two directors, Corporation Tax, year-end accounts and Companies House deadline management. Premier starts at £131 for complex structures. A Crunch Plus software tier at £10 and a "Crunch Free" plan from 2020 also appear on the site and we could not reconcile them with the current Lite tier.
HMRC lists Crunch on the Making Tax Digital for VAT list as record-keeping software. It is not on the Income Tax list, although Crunch's own marketing says MTD for Income Tax compliance is included in its packages. Open Banking feeds are free and cover the major UK banks by Crunch's account. The integrations page lists four things: Brixx for forecasting, Snap for receipt capture, Tripcatcher for mileage, and Open Banking. Stripe, GoCardless and PayPal are not there, which for a business that takes card or direct debit payments means reconciling by hand. There is a developer portal with a REST API on application, no MCP server, and no published data location or certifications. On the claim that the software is built on FreeAgent: we found no evidence for it; Crunch publishes a comparison page against FreeAgent and also lists as a FreeAgent partner accountant for clients who prefer that software.
Trustpilot is 3.9 on 1,628 invited reviews, 78 per cent five-star and 11 per cent one-star, and the one-star themes are the ones you would expect from a practice under strain: automated "3 to 5 day" response promises followed by weeks of silence, accounts that could not be closed after months of asking, payroll services ended without notice and mixed self-employment and rental income that had to be rekeyed into spreadsheets.
In our experience: we used Crunch and had serious problems with it. The bank feed repeatedly misidentified banks, there was no Stripe integration, and while some of the people there were excellent, others were not, and the service depended on which you got. Our reading is that this is the hazard of being an accountancy practice and a software company at once: the software is judged with the service, and both have to be good. We have marked Crunch down on that experience, and the current integrations page suggests the Stripe gap has not been closed. Saaskly has no affiliate link for Crunch.
Pros
- +One monthly fee covers the software and a dedicated accountant, VAT, director payroll, Corporation Tax and year-end accounts
- +On HMRC's MTD for VAT list; free Open Banking feeds; phone, video, email and WhatsApp support on Pro
- +UK-owned; the cheapest software-only tier on this page at £4
Cons
- −Marked down on our own experience: bank misidentification, no Stripe integration, uneven service quality
- −No Stripe, GoCardless or PayPal on the integrations page as of 8 Sep 2026; not on HMRC's MTD for Income Tax list despite Crunch's marketing; no MCP server
- −Trustpilot one-star themes of weeks-long silences, accounts that could not be closed and payroll ended without notice; pricing tiers on the site do not reconcile
