# Nutanix Cloud Infrastructure review: pricing, pros and cons

> Saaskly verdict: **3.9/5**. Enterprise hyperconverged private cloud with its own bundled AHV hypervisor and real hybrid reach into AWS, Azure and Google Cloud: the big-enterprise VMware exit.

## Pros and cons

**Pros**

- Hypervisor included; analysts put NCI typically one-third to one-half below repriced VCF
- Best hybrid/multi-cloud story in the category (NC2, Nutanix Central)
- Official Terraform provider, Ansible, v4 APIs, mature one-click lifecycle management

**Cons**

- Per-core, whole-cluster licensing with stacking add-on tiers: still expensive
- AHV ecosystem/ISV certification narrower than ESXi
- Historically tied to certified HCI hardware (easing in 2026)

## Pricing

Month-to-month price first (what you pay without committing), then the annual-commit rate.

- **NCI Pro (reseller-listed, unofficial)**: $649/yr on an annual commitment; month-to-month price not published
  - Includes: Per core, Production support (verify with Nutanix)

## Specification

| Attribute | Value |
| --- | --- |
| Licensing | Per core |
| Backends | AHV (KVM), ESXi (declining), AWS, Azure, Google Cloud |
| Self-service | Yes |
| Metering / billing | Yes |
| VMware migration | Yes |
| Multi-backend | Yes |
| IaC | Terraform (official), Ansible, Prism v4 REST API, NCM Self-Service |

## Our review

Nutanix sells a per-core-subscribed private-cloud platform (NCI Starter/Pro/Ultimate) whose KVM-based AHV hypervisor is included at no extra charge on Pro and Ultimate. Prism Central provides projects, RBAC and (with the NCM add-on) self-service blueprints and cost governance/chargeback across on-prem and public cloud. NC2 extends the same stack onto AWS, Azure and Google Cloud, and the free Nutanix Move tool plus in-place ESXi-to-AHV conversion make migration straightforward. In 2026 it dropped the HCI-only constraint by supporting external Dell, Pure and NetApp storage. It is the most capable platform here on hybrid cloud and lifecycle automation, and the most expensive after VMware.

Pricing is quote-based, per physical core across the whole cluster. Reseller-listed figures of roughly US$649–1,673 per core per year for NCI Pro are third-party and unconfirmed.
